Can Monero be Traced?
In September 2020, a chainanalysis company named CipherTrace developed a tool](https://cointelegraph.com/news/ciphertrace-develops-monero-tracing-tool-to-aid-us-dhs-investigations){: target=’_blank’ } to help the US Department of Homeland Security trace Monero transactions. As of now, there is no specific wallet that will help you avoid these traces. Instead, any sort of tracking method developed for Monero will need to be handled at the protocol level.
That being said, we do not know to what level Ciphertrace can track Monero transactions. Monero will also be implementing a non-contentious hard fork on October 17th that will reduce the size of transacitons by 25% but will also improve security and privacy. Monero is also looking into a new ring signature algorithm known as ‘Triptych’, which should also improve privacy on chain even further.
