RESOURCES FOR CRYPTOCURRENCY INVESTING
For those who are new to the crypto world, especially if they don't have a tech background, the entire blockchain ecosystem seems very overwhelming. It took me a few months to learn enough about blockchain to the point where I was comfortable investing in the space.
That's why I created this resources page to share with you the websites that I visit often. By having access to the right resources, those who are new can dramatically speed up their learning curve. I wish someone had given me this list when I got started - it would've saved me so much time!
Feel free to share this list to your friends who are new to the crypto world - they will thank you for it.
- If you want to learn about Bitcoin or Ethereum, you can read the whitepaper written by their creators. Even if you are not tech savvy, you can get a good grasp about how blockchain functions from these papers.
- Reddit is the biggest community in the blockchain space. Here are the more active subreddits:
- Live Coin Watch and Coin Market Cap (information about price performance and market capitalization of cryptocurrencies / tokens)
- Coin Spectator (this site aggregates cryptocurrency-related news from over 100 sources and it is my one stop shop site to make sure I don't miss anything important)
- The following two sites track all the transactions in the Ethereum and Bitcoin blockchain. After generating a transaction, I like to check whether it went through or not, just to make sure I didn’t make any mistakes.
- Blockchain terminology explained (this page breaks down the terms used in the blockchain world in detail which I find very useful)
- Coin Dance (you can find a lot of Bitcoin data from this website)
- Bit Info Charts (there are many useful stats in this site but I mainly use it to look at the average transaction fees for Bitcoin and Ether)
- ETH Gas (latest information about Ether gas price, useful to determine the gas price and how much gas I should set for my transactions)
Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs)
- ICO Alert and CoinSchedule (there are many different ICO calendars out there but I like these two the most)
- Token Filings (A directory for all the news and articles about token projects - sort of like the EDGAR for tokens)
- Bitcoin Talk (most ICOs have a standalone thread on this site)
- Binance – biggest crypto-to-crypto exchange
- Coinbase / Coinbase Pro – biggest cryptocurrency exchange in the US that takes fiat deposit, is FDIC insured, all digital currencies are fully insured
- Kraken – based in San Francisco, it is the biggest exchange for transactions denominated in Euro
- Gemini – based in New York, founded by the Winklevoss twins, all digital currencies are fully insured
- Poloniex – largest cryptocurrency exchange by transaction volume but do not accept fiat deposits
- Bittrex – also offers trading in many tokens with higher volume than Liqui
- Bitfinex - out of all the exchanges, I like Bitfinex's layout the most. However, note that it was hacked in 2016.
- Shapeshift – allows swapping different cryptocurrencies / tokens very quickly but usually with a higher fee
- MyCrypto – secure and reputable site, have many different functions, you can generate a wallet instantly
- MyEtherWallet – secure and reputable site, have many different functions, you can generate a wallet instantly
- Metamask – Ethereum browser and wallet
- Ledger Wallet – cold storage
- Trezor – cold storage
